i'm not sure if Clara and Marcela are hosting a "junkin' monday" this week ...
but i am celebrating anyway ... on thursday, i had a very special junkin' day:
not because of what i found ... but rather who i was with when i found what i
did ... i had the great pleasure of meeting up with Marilee as she was making
her way down Ohio to visit her friend in Columbus ... Marilee was also playing
Santa Claus, as she arrived bearing my Christmas present ... {but that is for
another post} ... Marilee and i met for lunch in a lovely tea room and then we
headed over to a wonderful antique shop that Marilee knew about from past
trips to Ohio ... there i found: a sweet shabby french book, a quartet of buckles,
and a pin~cushion doll that i am having a love/hate relationship with ... on one
hand, she is filthy beyond belief ... and yet i find her charming somehow ... if
anyone has a tip about cleaning her up, i would appreciate that greatly ...

Marilee brought me the sweetest gifts ... she knows the way to my heart ...

isn't the handkerchief monogrammed with my initial so very beautiful?

if you are going to Silver Bella, be sure to find your way over to Marilee's
vendor table ... i saw a peek of her wares ... and they are gorgeous ... linens,
laces, and ephemera to die for ... you will love everything ...

now, i want to switch gears here for a minute ... because this morning as i was
making my rounds in google reader, i saw something that made my day ... Tina
from "tiny bear" posted the box she made using my tutorial from "artist class":

ps: i just had word ... junkin' monday is in full swing ... hooray!!!

49 friends had this to say:
That sweet doll doesn't look that dirty in the picture Lori...she is just like us: a little shabby, a little vintage a lot of glam!! LOL! Have no idea how to clean it, sorry! Love everything else too...sweet and so so cute!!
It sounds like you had a fun visit with your friend! The box that Tina made is wonderful. You should do more tutorials Lori, you are great at them!
Lori, that hankie is the sweetest. I agree to see a finished product from a teaching you have shared does a heart wonder. You should be proud...what a great box she made. You have been so kind to share all your knowledge, I hope you know that. Now on to your finds...That pin cushion doll makes me drool. I think I would not try to clean her, dirty is better that torn, and I think that is what you may end up with. I say vintage brooch with a bit of gathered vintage lace.
Joy...................always
Wonderful goodies you found and even better getting to treasure hunt with a friend!
Hi Lori! How fun to meet up with a fellow talented blogger!! I am so glad you had such a nice time. You found and received some beautiful things!! I LOVE that pincushion! I would have had to get it too :)

Very sweet gifts indeed. I also really like your old book tied up with vintage linen scraps! I'll have to check out the artist class site.
What great things you found. The doll is wonderful, dirt and all. YOur tutorials are great. I have viewed them, but yet to make anything.. I just don't know where you ladies find the time to do all you do.. But enjoyed your junkin monday..
I love that picture with the old book and tattered doll - gorgeous! Glad you had a fun time - junking is even more fun when you can share it with like-minded friends.
Lori your tutorials rock...remember the Joli Paquet snowman? My 11 yr old daughter was even able to make one from your wonderful instructions last year. I'm guessing they must be a lot of work, but they are very definitely appreciated and very well done!
Laura

I bet the pages are just so perfectly aged and gorgeous... I have no idea how to clean your little pin cushion, how about taking her to the dry cleaners? Hehhe. Let them do it :)

Oh, I just love all the "little things". The doll is beautiful, love the book and hankie. so sweet!
and the box is just darling!
Debra
I don't think you should touch the fabric of the half doll! Just leave it as is. Oh your box looked great and now one of your 'students' did a fab job as well, congrats to both of you! I met a 'fellow'blogger yesterday too! I did a course; how to make a bear at Marja's from Rosabears, she makes the most lovely bears. Now I have a lot of homework to do, as we chatted all course :-D! I should make a bear in 2 days, next day is in a fortnight. Love the presents from Marilee, if you don't like the hanky anymore...it's my initial too. Have a lovely day!
It looks like you aquired a lot of lovely treasures ! But enjoying it with a friend makes it so very special ! I love the box that Tina made , I am going to have to go check out her site also !
Thanks so much for stopping by at my blog !
Eunice
Hi Lori,
How cool that you got to go junkin' with a pal. That book is exactly what I would have picked up. I'm not sure why I am so drawn to these old books and their tattered cover, but I find them so charming.
Tina's box is so lovely. She certainly took your tutorial and ran with it and now has something she will always treasure. I think you truly did amazing as a teacher.
Oh yes, that little pincushion doll is a find. Have you taken it to the cleaners to see what they could do?
Hugs,
June
What a gorgeous and stunning doll, gorgeous and what lovely treasures you received!
Tina's box is beautiful! I'm sure it feels wonderful to see your project come to life so elegantly!
How fun to see someone take you ideas and put their own touches to them!!!!
What lovely treasures you found, and what beautiful gifts Marilee gave to you! I've known Marilee since I was a teenager (from college)... and we didn't know till just this past year that we both loved vintage ~ odd, huh?! lol
LOVE your hanky (it's my initial, too, so I'm partial to it)! heehee =)
Niki over at Nostalgiaathestonehouse blog is always redoing those vintage pincushion dolls (I mean, she has made over OODLES of them)! Perhaps she can give you some advice?
Lori, your treasures from your day out with Marilee are wonderful!! (I am sorry I couldn't join you guys this time... I was thinking of you!) and that BOX... that is SO SO gorgeous!! You must be an awesome teacher. ;)
Oh those gifties from Marilee are fabulous. My favorites are the doll and the "Fair Days" postcard! What fun to have a visit from a friend and go "junking" together!
xo

Oh i am so glad that you had such a fun time! I love the doll the way she is, but I have a soft spot for dirty, grungy things!
Beautiful finds! Your pin cushion doll is gorgeous! I have one that could use a good cleaning too, but I'm afraid to try. But even dirty, I still love her!
Love the pretty monogrammed hankie and all the other sweet treats from your friend.

What wonderful treasures you found! I don't know how to clean up the pincushion doll. I might be tempted to take her apart and make her a new dress. I'll bet you could do something wonderful. I love the box Tina made. You have every right to be proud. Your tutorial must have been fantastic.
Lovely finds and that box is gorgeous! I have missed so much lately as I haven't been on the computer with my family visiting. I must catch up on your lovely posts!

Lori,
Your finds are awesome.
When I find neat stuff that is fabric -but impossible to wash - I use "Scrubbily Bubbily Teddy Bear Cleaner and Plush Toy Stain Remover."
You do have to check a small hidden area for color fastness First.
Your student did you proud - her box is amazing.
Hugs,
Penny
Oh how junkin Monday is so great!! Thanks for sharing! You have some great finds! I believe it also inspires others to see what else is out there in other regions of the US!!
